Cariad
Cariad \KAR-ee-ad\ , noun;
1. Welsh English: A sweetheart, a lover
This word dates to 1871 and is based on caru, which means "to love, woo" from the Proto-Indo-European base *qar-, which just so happens to be the forebear of whore.
